Bram Schwartz 74, Sydney Bram Schwartz, 74, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. He was born February 5, 1933, in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, to the late Abraham and Rose (Claener) Schwartz. Bram captained the Central High School rugby team when they won the Nova Scotia championship. He graduated from Central High School in 1951 and attended the University of Western Ontario School of Business. He married his love, Inez Goldman, on October 26, 1958. Bram was a successful businessman, philanthropist, bridgemaster, horseman, and devoted fan of the New York Yankees and Toronto Maple Leafs sports teams. Bram successfully ran the fashionable New Waterford clothing store, Schwartz and Company. He was active in his hometown community, and beyond, serving on the board of directors of Tip Top Tailors, sitting on the New Waterford Board of Trade and helping to establish the Coal Bowl Classic high school basketball tournament, held annually in New Waterford. Upon retirement, Bram continued to enjoy contract bridge, and travelled all over North America to play bridge. He was president of the Nova Scotia and Newfoundland American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), and was recognized as a Silver Lifemaster bridge player. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Inez (Goldman) Schwartz and daughters, Beth Lynn, Calgary, Heidi (Daniel Rubinoff), Toronto; son, Joseph, Toronto; granddaughter, Rose, "the light of his life"; sister, Ruth (Richard) Goldbloom, Halifax; brothers, Irving(Diana) Schwartz, Sydney, Harold (Diane) Schwartz, Sydney and loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Joseph and his sister, Edna.
