Fannie David Nathanson was born into a large and loving family in Sydney, Cape Breton in 1935.
In the 1950s she left for the mainland and Dalhousie University to get her Bachelor of Commerce degree, followed by a few years working in Montreal and New York. She returned to Cape Breton to marry Hilroy Nathanson, from Glace Bay, and together to raise three children - Kendall, Peter and Jan. In 1986, she and Hilroy moved to Halifax where she built a new life and opened her home to students and newcomers in her Jewish community.
She was a member of the Shaar Shalom Synagogue for 35 years. Then a few years ago she moved to Vancouver to be closer to her daughter, Jan.
Fannie was a much-loved mother, sister to Connie David Leonard, and grandmother to Ari, Ben, Oren, Quinn, Yael and Zeve.
She was predeceased by her father, Nathan David; mother, Fannie Yazer David; stepmother, Sarah Selick David; and husband, Hilroy.
