Dr Mosie Claener was a dentist who practiced in Sydney for many years. He married Norma Cohen (later changed to Colonel) by her brother, my uncle Art Cohen Colonel. Art always claimed that Colonel was the real Family name, not Cohen.
Mosie served in the Canadian army and was stationed in England during World War 11.
Norma and Mosie had 3 children, Joseph, Michael and Anne. Joseph followed his father’s footsteps and was also a dentist.
An interesting observation in that the family name was Claener or “Klainer” which in Yiddish means Small. In fact Mosie was true to his name and was rather short in height.
When my uncle Pilot Officer Tommy Marshall was killed in a plane crash during the war in Trenton, Ontario, the family, not wanting to break the news to Tommy’s brother Jack by letter, who was on active duty in England, they asked Mosie to tell Jack of Tommy’s death.
Mosie agreed and despite how difficult it was, Mosie performed that mitzvah for the family.
